Know when to take a break

Dear Antonio,

Lately I have been trying my luck with both live poker and online poker. I seem to do fine and win a good amount of money. The problem is that after I win a tournament, live or online, I can never finish strong the next game or two. What am I doing wrong?

Dear Doc,

Two questions, two answers. First, it’s natural to let down after a tournament win. First, you’re wiped from the effort. Second, you’re high from the buzz. Wired and tired is no way to play winning poker, so it’s no wonder that your post-game games unravel. Do this: Take the win and walk away! Go to a bar and chill with some friends. Chase the betties. Do anything but play more poker. You’ll have plenty of time to win again tomorrow when you’re fresh again.
