Losing chips with pocket pairs

Ask Antonio Esfandiari - Question - Poker Strategy and Advice Dear Antonio,

Lately I have been trying my luck with both live poker and online poker. I seem to do fine and win a good amount of money. The problem is that after I win a tournament, live or online, I can never finish strong the next game or two. Also, I see to have a lot of trouble winning my all-ins. I can't even remember how many times I have gotten pocket queens or pocket tens and ended up losing all my chips. What am I doing wrong?

Dan

Ask Antonio Esfandiari - Answer - Poker Strategy and Advice Hey Danno,

Yeah, it's kinda common to experience a letdown or a setback after a big win. Why? Maybe 'cause you're so pumped from victory that you're not playing right. Or maybe you're just tired. Anyway, "know when to say when," yeah? If you've had a big win, maybe just lock it up and shut down for the night. The game'll still be there tomorrow. It always is.

About losing your all-ins, I bet you win about your fair share, but 'cause the losses hurt more you probably remember them more. That's called "confirmation bias," and all I can tell you is get over it. The other thing is to build your stack with aggressive plays and steals so that when you're in an all-in confrontation, it's the other guy who's all in.
