Poker rewards aggression
Dear Antonio,
I lack the courage of my convictions. Whether I've got a good hand or I'm driving a bluff, I have no trouble betting the flop but I don't follow through with big bets on the turn or the river. If they don't give up on the flop, I can't help thinking they've got my number and I break off my drive. Of course this means that I get bet off pots a lot and that can't be good for my game. How can I get guts?
Cowardly Lion
Dear Cowardly Lion,
You're right that you're making yourself a sitting duck and you've got to get over that if you ever hope to win. Ask yourself this question: What are you afraid of? Losing money? Busting out of a tournament? These things happen every day, pal. Don't you know that losing is part of winning? Poker rewards aggression and punishes cowardice. Always has, always will. Stand the heat or split the kitchen.
