Proper late tournament play

Ask Antonio Esfandiari - Question - Poker Strategy and Advice Dear Antonio,

Been playing a NL game and multiplayer NL tourney down in FL. Been finishing in the money in the tourneys but not making the final table. I find myself playing very timidly when it gets to the point where I can finish in the money or risking losing. I feel like that is the best time to make moves since everyone else is probably of the same mindset. Curious what you think.

Ask Antonio Esfandiari - Answer - Poker Strategy and Advice Dear AJS,

The question is the answer. You worry that you're playing too timidly when you get close to the cash and hey, guess what? You are! So stop doing that. Look at it this way: Turning a $500 buy-in into a $750 tournament payday is meaningless, but turning $500 into multiples of ten grand -- that could change the whole equation. Always be in it to win it, and always be ready to crush the tiny minds who think that winning their entry fee back is in any way better than not. Remember: Losing is part of winning, and winners aren't afraid to lose.
